Together On A Mission 2007

Report by Wendy Virgo

Wendy Virgo reflects on an amazing week at the Together on a Mission leadership conference in Brighton, UK.

The first day was so rich it would have been worth coming just for that. Stephen Van Rhyn began with an explosive word from Exodus 32 contrasting Aaron’s mistakes with Moses’ wisdom in leadership. In the afternoon, Rob Rufus spoke on ‘Being filled with faith and power’, and many were overcome with the sense of God’s presence. Then in the evening, Terry preached powerfully from Joshua 1 on Joshua leading Israel into a new era.

This theme of a new era continued throughout the conference, particularly in prophetic words. Prophecy is always an important part of our life together, but this year it was unusually powerful. Julian Adams prophesied that he could see many cars with number plates from different countries toiling up a steep hill, but as they reached the top, they began to gather momentum. The conference week was to be a ‘tipping point’ where an exchange would take place: no longer shall we be working under man’s energy and control, but we will experience the acceleration and momentum of the Holy Spirit.

Rob Rufus’ teaching about faith and power was not only brought verbally but experientially.

Many fell as the power of God came on them. People were enjoying the awesome sense of his presence.

The whole atmosphere of the conference was charged with a sense of excitement and anticipation. A recurrent theme was that faith comes out of intimacy with God; we are not to seek power for its own sake but to prize and cultivate intimate relationship with him. Every seminar was blessed with God’s presence. Predictably, the seminar on prophecy, with Guy Miller, Sam Poe, and Julian Adams, filled up quickly. The teaching was superb, and there were wonderful stories of people receiving amazingly accurate prophecies.

We were lifted into a new place in worship this year. Undoubtedly Kate Simmonds’ leading with Simon Brading, accompanied by the excellent Phatfish, had a lot to do with that. But there was an awesome sense of the Holy Spirit invading our worship. It was also a great joy to be led by Matt Redman and to have Evan Rogers lead on the memorable prayer night.

53 nations were represented this year, and we now work into most of these. It is exciting to look back and see where we have come from; but it is even more exciting to look ahead with the prophetic words of ‘New days,’ New things’, ‘New Chapters’, ‘New Address’ spurring us on. We are living in amazing days with the prospect of far greater to come.

Dates for next year:

8–11 JULY 2008
At the Brighton Centre, Brighton, UK
